Mrs. Saul's Kindergarten Class
Room 2
Welcome to Kindergarten!
I am so excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher, and I can’t wait to get started on an amazing school year! While we will be working on a wide variety of skills and subjects this year, the one aspect I would like to emphasize above all is the development of a strong and positive sense of self! According to Dr. Jane Nelsen, “Self-esteem comes from having a sense of belonging, believing that we're capable, and knowing our contributions are valued and worthwhile.”
As parents and educators here are some things we can do to foster our children’s confidence
-Identify and encourage individual strengths and interests
-Reinforce feelings of belonging
-Be role models of positive attitude and self image
-Encourage a “Can do!” attitude
-Allow and encourage children to express feelings
-Emphasise effort and not just outcome
-Resist comparisons
-Let mistakes happen!
My goal is to use these principles to encourage a true life long love of learning! Throughout the year, while working on all areas of curriculum from phonics and reading to art and science, the main goal will be to foster the desire for new experience and knowledge. Early childhood education is a field I have spent more than half my life working in, and an area of true personal passion and dedication. I am so excited to be a part of such a special time in your child’s development, and I can’t wait to see all of you soon!
